Why are baby teeth so important?
Milk teeth are important because they help in maintaining overall health of the body.
Healthy primary milk teeth will allow normal development of jaw bones and muscles, saves space for permanent teeth and guide them into normal position during eruption. If the baby teeth are lost too soon, then the permanent teeth may come in crooked i.e. Not in its proper position.
Decayed baby teeth can cause pain, abscess and infection and can spread to permanent teeth.
How can I prevent cavities in my child?
Brushing your child’s teeth twice daily with Fluoridated tooth paste under parent’s supervision is very important as there is a lack of muscular dexterity in small kids. Teach them gargling after every snack or meals.
Sugary and sticky food, for example Chocolate, Biscuits and wafers should be avoided in between meals. You can definitely give them just before meals so that the stickiness goes away with the friction of fibrous food in meals. Frequency of sweets should be decreased.
